Bummin' in Segadas

Friday, August 07, 2015

I would really want to believe that the name Segadas literally means Hidden Paradise or Beautiful Beach as it is way better than the more mainstream beaches in Pangkor like Teluk Nipah or Pasir Bogak.

It was an unexpected plan to go to Pangkor that I just suddenly think of going out of town for CNY. It was already 7 pm when I invited Jane and Ate Vhie if they want to join me and my girlfriend to spend a day in Segadas. I explained to them that Segadas is a secluded beach in Pangkor and we need to trek some 15 minutes to reach the beach and they both agreed. Yay! So it was already late at night that we really didn't have time to prepare or buy some food to bring for next day, luckily, my girlfriend found a kilo of chicken in their freezer that she cooked chicken adobo in the morning for our lunch in Segadas.

We took our breakfast first at McDonalds, refueled my car then we start our long road trip to Marina Island where we will ride a jetty to Pangkor.

There are two Jetties that can take you to Pangkor Island:
Lumut Jetty -  I think this is the main jetty as it is bigger than Marina. The Ferries are bigger as well. It will take you approximately 30minutes from Lumut to Pangkor and it has one stop over. The First stop is an old jetty and the second and the last one is the main jetty of Pangkor.
Marina Jetty - It is located in Marina island. The ferry is smaller compared to to Lumut but it will just take you 10 minutes to reach the main jetty of Pangkor.

Since we will just having a daytrip to the island, we chose to ride at Marina to cut the travel time. We arrived at Marina at approximately 11am and we bought our tickets right away. The parking area is so jam-packed that we had parked very far to the building and paid RM15 for one day. One ticket to Pangkor costs RM11 for two-way. One malay family approached us to sell their 3 tickets for RM30, we asked them why do they want to sell their tickets then they just said that queue is so long and they don't want to wait any more. We bought the tickets from them (3 tickets for 30? FTW!) then I bought 1 additional ticket from the counter. After that, we proceed to the jetty loading area only to realized what uncle had just told us awhile ago, the long queue. It wasn't just a long queue, it was madness! The line was so long that the end already reached the boutique in the back. I understand that time why that family backed out. It was completely insane. Well, it was Chinese New Year after all.

It was already 2pm when we arrived at Pangkor. We quickly rode a van to the starting point of the trek for RM10. I can still see smile in their faces when we have just starting the trek, but it slowly fading away as we travel along. I just keep on reminding them that a paradise is waiting on us at the end of the trail. Along the trail, we found some strange and weird trail marks: ladies underwear hanging on to the trees. We laughed at first then we wonder why did they hung their underwear here. This started the imagination of my girlfriend that maybe there is a group of serial killers who abduct women, rape and kill them, then hang their underwear along the trail to the beach. It really scared the hell out of her. But it was really weird.

After 15 minutes of sweating out, we finally reach the beach! Teluk Segadas. It is truly a great beach. A really nice place to relax, to camp, to do nothing and to enjoy the view and the surroundings. We started to set our picnic the minute we found a nice place under a tree then we took our delicious lunch. There are at least two groups when we came there although I was really expecting that we will be alone in the beach. But then it was nice to know that there are some people there, at least we can ask them for help if there are serial killers. haha!

The place is really beautiful so Jane and I took out our cameras and started taking pictures. After that, we changed to our swimming clothes then took a sweet dip in the sea. We really enjoyed the water as it was cold and there were no corals, stones or rocks, it just pure fine sand.

Wooden Bridge

The time really gone so fast that we need to go back to the main road. We don't want to go back and trek in the dark, remember the serial killers? We arrived at the main road waiting for the van at around 7pm. The last trip of the Jetty going back to Marina is 7:30 pm.

I am really glad that they enjoyed the bumming and the art of doing nothing as much as I enjoyed it. I am pretty sure that we will go back as they also suggesting that we spend a night over there camping. It was exhausting at first but I am sure that all of that are worth it when you see the Segadas.

Below are some photos I took in Segadas from my Panasonic GX1.
